Marie Laveau

I love the song Marie Laveaux. It definitely fits with all the zombies we've encountered over the semester. It reminded me more of Andy's story than the Link stories about zombies. Anyone else really like this song? Anyway, here is a link to a Marie Laveau (or Laveaux) Voodoo shop in New Orleans. It also gives a little history of Marie Laveau.

I love this song too! All the voodoo references in it made me think of Andy's story, what we learned about Zora and the zombie, and the clip from the film we wathced at the beginning of the semester.

I really liked the eerie "old recording" sound of the song. It would be perfect on a horror film soundtrack (or a fantasy class soundtrack). It reminded me of anything New Orleans, and besides the connection with the voodoo in Zora and the Zombie, wasn't Marie Laveaux referenced in American Gods? In that one section about the African gods brought to America?

You're right, Elizabeth. Among its other origin stories, American Gods gives us a bit of Marie Laveau's origin story, as the 19th-century Widow Paris.
