Addiction
I am looking for general questions about addiction. Maybe my last post talked about the paper too much, so there was confusion as to what I was asking for help with. I am going to write the paper concentrating on the fine line between the real and fatastical world when using drugs. I'll explain more tonight in class. However, I think it has to do with the point at which a person becomes addicted to the substance. I look forward to hearing everyone's topics tonight.

I think addiction occurs at the point where a person develops a dependence on any substance - or physical/emotional feeling even - and they start to experience cravings of whatever will satiate that desire. So, I guess my question lies in when the desire is a result of an addiction and when it's just a indulgence of hedonism? Is it a question of repetitive use/indulgence? In these terms, I think the "addictions" are mental addictions. So, where, then, does it cross the line into a physical addiction? Hope this gives you something!
In "Wonderwall," the narrator is clearly dependent on drugs, but is she really addicted? She's not too keen on the cough syrup, as is her freind, and is also disgusted by some of his toher habits ( a la bathroom scene at the club).
She could be addicted to the ideal of poetry and art, as demonstrated by her obsession with Rimbaud. Is addiction a mental obsession or a physical dependecy, or both?
