More on Lord Byron
Thanks for the link to Byron's "Manfred," Katie. In this SF Site interview, Susanna Clarke talks about the serendipity of stumbling across "Manfred" while researching the period.
Some readers of Clarke's novel (mostly English majors) see the difference of opinion between Strange and Norrell as akin to the difference of opinion between the 19th-century Romantic writers and their 18th-century counterparts -- Byron vs. Pope, if you will.
Katie, have you read Lord Byron's Novel: The Evening Land by John Crowley?

Crowley's book isn't about Lord Byron. It's the novel that Crowley thinks Byron would have written. It's a novel written by John Crowley AS Lord Byron.
