Vinculus

While reading an essay in Spanish, I came across an interesting word, "Vinculo" (except it has an accent on the i). Having no idea what it meant, and seeing the familiarity between the word and the name in the story, I looked it up. The word in Spanish means "link or bond." Very fitting.

Gilbert means different things in different languages. It means trusted in English & bright lad in French. I don't know about the trusted part but Mr Norrell is bright.

What about the man with the thistle down hair...

One thing that I was taught in a sunday school class was that Adam was givin the task to name all the animals, that we never know God's real name and that the Jewish didn't even write God (Yaweh) for fear the name was too holy...that a name gives a person power over things...

just a thought since he doesn't give his name
